The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has spread all over the globe, causing many deaths and many others fighting for their lives. This situation is so serious that nearly every country in the world is basically on lockdown which means no work, no school and no events or family gatherings. Even bars and clubs are closed. Bars and Clubs people! It does not get any more serious than that. This is known as social distancing and self-isolation which helps to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

But despite all the mayhem, Corona is giving you a once in a lifetime gift. The gift of time. On a normal day, due to our hectic schedules, we hardly have any time to do anything else that has a positive effect on our physical, mental and spiritual health.

But while you are at home, there are many things you can do to enrich yourself and to make sure you come out the other side a better person.

READ THAT BOOK

You know that book which you have been meaning to read? But due to work and other commitments, you are too tired to even attempt to read one page. So, during the lockdown, use this time to read that book. Read a chapter a day and you will have another book off your list.

TAKE A COURSE

The internet offers many courses that could help improve your capabilities in your career. Whether it is to improve your communication skills, financial literacy or even learning a new language, I can guarantee you, there is a course for it. This would be a great investment of your time and improve your skills. You will not regret it.

TIME FOR SELF-REFLECTION

Use this time to take a step back and look at your life. Revisit your New Year’s goals list and see if you have made any progress in any of them. Make use of this time to strategize. Self-reflection also involves spiritual introspection through meditation and yoga to relax and rejuvenate the mind. We are living in a fast world with all kinds of information and headlines at the palm of our hands. This can make one feel overwhelmed sometimes. So, take some time away from your phone and give yourself some peace of mind.

REST YOUR BODY

Take this time to rest your body. It has gone through waking up early in the morning, pumping it full of coffee, sitting uncomfortably on the office chair and long trips to and from work. Do your body a favor by sleeping in and taking a nap during the day. Also, do some yoga and moderate exercise, and eat some healthy cooked meals. Rejuvenate your body, while keeping it healthy to fight against any viruses.

PLAY WITH YOUR CHILDREN

With schools closed and children stuck in the house, they are restless and packed with energy. Create some memories with your children by coming up with clever games to play with them. Having their faces stuck on their phone screens, will not help to develop them in any way. Most importantly, you will create lasting memories with them. During this time, when everything is so uncertain, the least we can do is create memories.

SPEND TIME WITH MUM AND DAD

Unfortunately, Coronavirus is way more dangerous to the older generation. This is the best time to visit them and make sure they are safe and healthy. Make sure they stay indoors and when they do go out, that they take the necessary precautions. Again, it is all about creating memories with them. Do not lose this opportunity to do so.

Above everything stay safe out there. Wash your hands, sanitize and avoid large crowds as much as possible. Lastly, please do not be selfish. Help the people in your community. Send out some care packages to your neighbors. Kindness always goes a long way.
